Rare Hole-in-one Hit On Par 4 Hole
Getting
a hole-in-one on a golf course is every golfers
dream; however very few people achieve this
milestone. A former Manitoulin Islander
not only had a hole-in-one but did it on a par 4
hole. Gerry Proceviat, formerly of Gore Bay and
still a senior member of the Manitoulin Island
Country Club (MICC) in Gore Bay, scored the
first hole-in-one of his life at a tournament
held at the Brookwood Brae golf course in
Mindemoya.
What
was different about this hole-in-one, is that it
was on the 275 yard, par four, seventh hole.
“This is the first hole-in-one I’ve ever had”
said an ecstatic Mr. Proceviat, as he described
his perfect shot. “I was in a foursome
with my wife Cecile and friends Janet and Gil
Benoit.
“I
was at the seventh tee and hit my driver a ‘Jazz
driver’ as straight as an arrow. It landed
on the green, three feet from the pin, and
rolled into the cup.”
“I was too
far away to see the ball roll into the cup, but
John Seabrook, owner of the golf course, who was
in the foursome on the seventh hole, turned and
was waving his arms at me, after my shot.
I thought he was mad at me for not yelling Fore…
but he said no, it was because I had a
hole-in-one, ” explained Mr. Proceviat. It
should be noted that along with the distance of
the hole, the green was elevated.
Mr. Proveciat,
62, a left-handed player, moved to Tilsonburg on
July 14 from Gore Bay, where he and his wife are
building a new house. Interestingly, he
said, “I haven’t played golf in almost two
months. ” The Proceviat-Benoit team had a
score of 30, six under par, in the ninth hole
Bud Thorburn Memorial Wormburner Golf Tournament
at Brookwood Brae on Saturday.
